The ASX Gets an Electric Makeover: Meet the All-New ASX VR-e

Exciting news for Kiwi drivers! Mitsubishi New Zealand have just confirmed that the tried-and-true ASX is going electric.

Arriving in late 2026, the all-new ASX VR-e marks a huge step forward in our electrified range. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the ASX or looking to make the leap to your first battery electric vehicle (BEV), this is one to watch.

What’s in a name?

The ‘VR-e’ badge is a nod to the legendary Galant VR-4, bringing a bit of that high-performance, sporty DNA into the EV world. Developed in partnership with Italian design icons Pininfarina and EV experts Foxtron, this SUV is designed to turn heads. It’s sleek and aerodynamic. Featuring an S-Duct, which channels airflow from the centre of the front bumper over the hood surface, and Active Grille Shutters, which help reduce aerodynamic drag according to driving conditions.

Choice for everyone

We know everyone’s lifestyle is different, so we’re launching the VR-e with four distinct trim levels, led by a high-performance GSR model. And don’t worry - the original pertrol ASX isn’t going anywhere, so you’ll have plenty of options to find the perfect fit for your driveway.
