The field of 35 loyal Mercedes-Benz owners were all playing to earn one of the two places on offer representing Mercedes-Benz Wellington at the MercedesTrophy New Zealand National Final. This year, the final will be held at the 5-star Millbrook Resort in Queenstown on 17-19 April 2020.
On a perfect day for golf in the capital, there was some impressive golf, none more so than from Division A winner, John Rowland of Royal Wellington GC, whose winning score of 42 points included an extremely rare albatross 2 on the Par-5 10th Hole. With Rowland being a previous representative of Team New Zealand at the World Final in Germany, the qualifying criteria meant his place in the National Final this year went to Division A runner-up, Heath George, also of Royal Wellington GC on 38 points. The host club members continued to dominate in Division A, with the other daily prize winners being David Hadfield and Sheryl Edgar on 37 points and 36 points respectively.
In Division B, the best score of the day was from Pegasus GC member, Glenda Petre with 39 points. Petre was a New Zealand National finalist in 2019, so under the competition rules, the place in this final went to the Division B runner-up, Bob Masters of Miramar GC. Masters earned his placed by the narrowest of margins, a countback from 3rd placed John Henderson of Royal Wellington also on 38 points. Another host club member, Rasbeer Gill rounded off the Division B prize spots with 37 points.
Oliver Gazley of Mercedes-Benz Wellington was delighted to present the prizes on the day and wishes the qualifiers the best of luck at Millbrook Resort in April.
