2019 MercedesTrophy Regional Golf Day

The annual Mercedes-Benz Wellington MercedesTrophy Golf Day was held on Friday 1st March 2019. The tournament was hosted at the prestigious Royal Wellington Golf Club

The annual Mercedes-Benz Wellington MercedesTrophy Golf Day was held on Friday 1st March 2019. The tournament was hosted at the prestigious Royal Wellington Golf Club, regarded as one of the premier courses in Wellington, the host venue for the recent Asia-Pacific Amateur Championship and Annika Sorenstrom Invitational.

The field of 33 included an exclusive group of loyal Mercedes-Benz owners and invited friends with a passion for golf. The eligible Mercedes-Benz owners were all vying for the opportunity to represent the dealership at the MercedesTrophy New Zealand National Final, which will be staged at the luxurious Cape Kidnappers Resort 26-28 April 2019.

2019 MercedesTrophy Wellington Winner

After 18 holes of competition on the tough Wellington layout, a remarkable story unfolded with 2 previous winners both carding 39 points. After the countback was applied, Jim Malcolm from Royal Wellington GC was announced the victor and recipient of the Jim Osborne Memorial Trophy. Jim has represented Team New Zealand at the World Final in Germany in 2013 but under the special eligibility rules in 2019 celebrating the 30-year anniversary of the MercedesTrophy Golf Series, Jim will again try his luck at the National Final.

In runner-up was Kath Foot also from Royal Wellington GC. Kath had attended the National Final in Taupo back in 2008.

For the daily prizes, the full list of prize winners as follows:

Men’s Division

1st Place:DAVID PETRE (Manawatu GC) 37 points
Runner-up:JOHN BEAUMONT (Manawatu GC) 35 points
3rd Place:MURRAY DUDFIELD (Manor Park GC) 34 points

Women’s Division

1st Place:KATH FOOT (Royal Wellington GC) 39 points
Runner-up:SHONA WILLIS (Royal Wellington GC) 37 points

Near to the Pin Prizes were won by Kath Foot, Peter Dow and Heath George. The Straight Drive competition on the 18th hole was won by Robin Lim.
