The new ŠKODA SCALA will instantly turn heads with its emotionally charged design, evincing another stage in the evolution of the ŠKODA design language. The SCALA is ŠKODA’s first production car in Europe to confidently spell out the ŠKODA name in letters on the fifth door instead of using a logo. The interior features a new concept with a central raised screen at its heart. The touchscreen is conveniently positioned high up so that it is easy for the driver and front passenger to read. There is also an optional Virtual Cockpit with a 10.25-inch display. The top-of-the-class luggage compartment accommodates 467 litres.
“With the new ŠKODA SCALA we are proposing a new chapter in the compact class of ŠKODA. It is a completely new development that sets standards in terms of technology, safety and design in this class. That is even borne out by the new name. At the same time, the ŠKODA SCALA oozes appeal with the smart understatement typical for the ŠKODA brand. Thus we are confident that the ŠKODA SCALA will redefine compact cars for ŠKODA,”
Bernhard Maier, ŠKODA’s board chairman
Three TSI petrol engines, with a capacity of 1.0 or 1.5 litres, and one 1.6 TDI diesel engine deliver power ranging from 70 to 110 kW (95 to 150 PS). At some point in 2019, these will be joined by the 1.0 G-TEC, a 66 kW (90 PS) engine powered by environmentally-friendly natural gas (CNG).
The ŠKODA SCALA offers up to 9 airbags and a range of advanced driver assistance systems that until now have been the preserve of higher-end models. Lane Assist and Front Assist, including an emergency braking function, are fitted as standard, while the adaptive cruise control (ACC) and Park Assist are optional.
The ŠKODA SCALA is always online courtesy of the built-in eSIM card with LTE connection. In addition, the SCALA offers a host of Simply Clever features, such as the electrically operated fifth door with Tip-To-Close, which is available in this class for the first time.

Even before its launch, the ŠKODA SCALA has already received its first accolade. A jury composed of around 40 international experts has awarded the new compact model the prestigious Red Dot Award 2019 in the product design category. This is the 13th time the Czech brand has been honoured with this coveted accolade. The SCALA is the first production model to feature the new ŠKODA design language destined to define the look of future models from the brand.
With its new sculptural shapes, dynamic lines and meticulously designed details, the SCALA is the first ŠKODA production model to showcase the brand’s new emotional exterior and interior design language. Its perfect proportions, clearly defined surfaces, flowing lines and advanced aerodynamics make this new compact model appear modern and sporting. Distinctive features include the upright radiator grille, a dynamic roof line and a sporting diffuser rounding off the wide rear section. In addition, the SCALA is the first production model for the European market to bear the ŠKODA wordmark in individual letters on the tailgate, superseding the traditional logo. The optional extended rear window features that wordmark on the glass surface itself.
The Red Dot Award is among the most prestigious design accolades in the world. Composed of experts from around the globe, the jury brings together independent designers, academics and industry journalists. This year, they were judging around 5,500 submitted products based on criteria such as degree of innovation, quality of design, functionality, longevity and environmental impact.
2019 marks the 64th year in which the Red Dot Award is presented as a global hallmark of outstanding product design.
